A

AMBASSADOR
The highest honor conferred by The United States Jaycees. This most distinguished form of recognition for outstanding past and present Jaycees can be bestowed at the state or chapter level upon application and approval. The prestigious Ambassadorship signifies an individual's exceptional contribution to the Jaycee movement in the United States.

ANNIVERSARY DUES
A dues collection system whereby a local member's annual dues are due during each anniversary month of membership.

ANNUAL MEETING
Also known as the National Convention. The meeting held in September each year to conduct business of The US Jaycees. It's at this meeting that a president and eight vice presidents, with one being elected by the Metro Conference, are elected. Each chapter may send delegates to the Annual Meeting.

ARMBRUSTER COMPETITION
This quarterly competition is for Jaycees with over one year in the organization. This competition is based on 50% resume and 50% on five Jaycee fact and opinion questions in a job interview situation.

B

BID
An offer to host an event or meeting.
BID PROCEDURE
Rules for the preparation and presentation of a bid.
BLUE CHIP
A management program designed to assist local chapters in developing The Total Jaycee Concept. These programs are a gauge of the chapter's success.
BROWNFIELD COMPETITION
This quarterly competition is for Jaycees with less than one year experience in the organization. This competition is based on 50% resume and 50% on five Jaycee fact and opinion questions in a job interview situation.
BY-LAWS
Rules and regulations an organization employs to determine its government and procedures.

C

CHAIRPERSON
The individual charged with the responsibility for the completion of a project. The chairperson heads a committee and provides motivation and leadership for its members.
CHAPTER MANAGEMENT
The effective, efficient and proper use of resources to accomplish a predetermined objective.
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS
The programs of a chapter through which an individual member is given the opportunity of applying learned leadership leadership and management skills in fulfilling chosen social responsibility.
CPG
Chairman's Planning Guide. The Chairman's Planning Guide is basically a project proposal which must be written by the project chairman before the project is to be held. This proposal is an invaluable training guide for the chairman and the chairman's committee. The Chairman's Planning Guide (CPG) consists of 10 questions which have to be answered. Before a project is held, the project chairman must complete the first 7 questions and must present the CPG to the Board of Directors. After the project is finished, the chairman must evaluate the project, complete the final budget, and answer the next 3 questions.

D

DD
District Director. The individual who is responsible for assisting the chapters in their district with communications and coordination to the region and state.
DEGREES OF JAYCEES
An individual activation program designed to assist the chapter in more effectively meeting the needs of its members; a Junior Chamber career path outline. The program consists of three (3) phases divided into ten (10) degrees.
DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD
Each year a member of the community is recognized by the Fargo Jaycees for their contributions to the Fargo area. Those individuals then compete in the Outstanding Young North Dakotans (OYND) competition held annually by the North Dakota Jaycees.
DISTRICT
A group of chapters under the supervision of a state officer.

EXHAUSTED ROOSTER
An affectionate title bestowed on a Jaycee upon reaching the age of 41 (the age of Jaycee retirement).
EXTENSION
The initial organizing of a new Jaycee chapter prior to completing the affiliation process.

FAMILY LIFE PROGRAM
A program to make families more involved in the Jaycees.

GENERAL MEMBER
A person between the ages of 21 and 40whose dues are paid. A Jaycee.

HONORARY MEMBER
Membership conferred upon an individual whose contribution to the organization has been so outstanding as to merit this honor.

The self-improvement programs of a chapter, aimed at teaching, developing, and increasing the individual member's personal and leadership skills.

JCI
Junior Chamber International. The worldwide Jaycees organization now operating in 90 countries.
JCI HEADQUARTERS
Located in St. Louis, MO, and headed by a salaried secretary-general, serves the world organization much as The United States Jaycees Headquarters serves the United States.
JCI SENATOR
The highest honor bestowed upon a current or past individual member for their contributions to the Jaycees by Junior Chamber International. A JCI Senator is a life member of Junior Chamber International.
JCI WORLD CONGRESS
The Annual Meeting of Junior Chamber International in which delegates from member nations conduct the organization's business.
JAYCEE CREED
A Statement of philosophy and beliefs adopted by The U. S. Jaycees and Jaycee International. The Creed was authored by the late C. William Brownfield of Columbus, Ohio, in 1946. Brownfield later served as a U. S. Jaycees vice president.
JAYCEE MAGAZINE
The U. S. Jaycees publication sent to all members.
JAYCEE WEEK
A week, beginning on the third Sunday in January, which marks the anniversary of the founding of The United States Jaycees in 1920. Local organizations use this week to tell their communities of their accomplishments.

LEADERSHIP CHALLENGE CUP
The Leadership Challenge Cup was established in 1992 and is presented annually at the year-end banquet to the Jaycee who has shown the most personal and leadership growth through their Jaycee activities.
LEGAL COUNCIL
An officer who is legal advisor to an organization.
LOTS
Local Officers Training School. A training service offered by your state organization.

Local chapter president.

MANAGEMENT DEVELOPMENT
Through Management Development, you'll learn to manage people, money and time, and to evaluate the success of a project or program. These skills not only apply to Jaycee business but carry over to your career as well. Also under Management Development are these programming areas: Planning, Training, Personnel Management, Communications/Public Relations, and Membership Development.
MEMBERSHIP NIGHT
A social gathering to allow prospective Jaycees to meet a chapter's members.
METRO
The name given Jaycee chapters in Population Divisions VII and VIII, as well as chapters with over 150 members in Population Divisions I through VI.

NATIONAL CONVENTION
The annual business meeting of the US Jaycees held each June in different locations each year.
NEWSLETTER
A publication of the chapter used to keep its members informed of news, activities, and meeting information.

ONTO
A slogan used in promoting attendance at a Jaycee meeting. Usually used in connection with a state wide meeting or The US Jaycee Annual Meeting.
OYF
Outstanding Young Farmer. A program to recognize young farmers of Jaycee age.
OYND
Outstanding Young North Dakotans. Winners at the state competition will be considered for the honor of Ten Outstanding Young Americans, by the US Junior Chamber.
ORIENTATION
The ongoing function of education to members about the Jaycee organization, its benefits and the opportunities offered to the individual member.

P

PARADE OF CHAPTERS
Competition among the chapters within the state in which points are earned and a ranking is established on a quarterly and annual basis.
PARADE OF STATES
Annual competition among the 50 states to be ranked according to performance during the year.
PARLIAMENTARIAN
A person who advises a chairman or presiding officer on matters relating to parliamentary procedures.
PIONEER AWARD
An award presented to a Fargo Jaycee who has been a member for a minimum of three years, has held a local office, and has unselfishly shown outstanding dedication and involvement to the Jaycee chapter and community.
POLICY
Rules of practice and procedure which supplement the Constitution and Bylaws.
POP DIVISION
Population Division. For purposes of competition and chapter activity guidelines, the local chapters are classified by the population division of their communities into 9 divisions. Fargo is in Pop Division 6.
PUBLIC RELATIONS
The acts of communicating what you are to the public. This is not to be confused with publicity, which is just one of the methods used in communicating the image.

R

RD
Region Director. The director of a state region whose primary purpose is to provide guidance and training to the local chapters as well as act as a conduit for information between the state organization and local chapters.
REGION
The state is divided into geographic regions to provide local leadership leadership and guidance to the chapters in that area. The group of chapters work as a team under the guidance of a Regional Director.
RESOURCES
The material, money and most importantly, the time and talent of people available to a Jaycee chapter.
RETENTION
The reference made to keeping members of the local chapter active members in the Jaycee organization.
ROBERT'S RULES OF ORDER (REVISED)
A guide book of parliamentary procedure written by General Henry A. Robert (US Army) in 1874. These rules provide for the protection of the rights of the majority, the rights of individuals and the rights of those absent in the conduct of meetings.
ROUGHRIDERS
The Roughrider is the highest honor the North Dakota Jaycees can bestow upon a current or past individual member.

S

SENATOR
The highest award given by the Junior Chamber International. Senators have given considerable effort to helping to promote the Jaycees philosophies and beliefs. To honor one of your members with this award, your President must complete an application form and submit it with a filing fee through the state office.
SPEAK UP
A program designed to improve an individuals' verbal communication skills. Competitions are held on the local, regional, state and national levels.
SPONSORSHIP
Financial material or physical support of the Jaycee programs by an outside individual, group or firm.
SPRINGBOARD
A program designed to help you become an active and respected member of your chapter. The program helps you to become familiar with the members of your chapter and with some opportunities Jaycees offers you.
STATE DIRECTOR
A voting member of the board of directors of a state Jaycees organization. Your chapter president and state director are entitled to vote at state meetings.
STATE MEETING
A meeting conducted by a state officers in accordance with the bylaws of a state organization. Statewide meetings are held in many states on a quarterly basis.

T

10th DEGREE JAYCEES
Recognized nationally for their accomplishments in their Jaycee Careers, the 10th Degree Jaycees have successfully completed the requirements to achieve this award.
TOYA
Ten Outstanding Young Americans. Each year during the week immediately prior to Jaycee Week, The US Junior Chamber of Commerce honors 10 dynamic young American at an awards congress.
